Editorials and Personal Columns

3 Ideas for an Editorial in the Lone Star Dispatch would be: 1) Conflicting opinions on Halloween costume rules 2) The problems with air conditioning/heating in winter at Bowie 3) Is cell phone addiction real? One columnist I read: One prominent person I like to read from would have to be willdabeast, who is a professional dancer and speaks his opinion in all of his posts about current issues. I like to read him because even if I don't always agree with him, I respect that he goes against the normal and doesn't care what everyone else thinks.

Personal Essays

1. One idea that the writer gave me in the Wide Range of Topics Section was to write about balancing a competitive sport with high school. I feel like people could relate to balancing their own hobbies with school, and even though the topic is small, it could still allow people to relate. 2. The major thing I need to remember while writing our piece is to not generalize things and be specific. It's important to put things in a context where readers can relate in the big picture and the specific parts as well. 3. Three suggestions from Personal Essays and Craft section that stood out to me would be not to start every sentence with 'I', explore all the senses while writing, and take ideas from wherever possible.

In paragraph two, the writer directly talks about their point and how sc...

How to Adult Story

How to Dress for Every Occasion for Adults:    Starting a new chapter in a person's life can be scary and unfamiliar. Though that's true, something that many adults struggle with is their wardrobe. As an adult, it's important to dress appropriately for every occasion to maximize opportunities. From going to a play to a job interview, having a good outfit is important.    Outfits vary heavily from dressing for work, dinners, school, plays, or just spending time with friends. An important tip is to have a few staple items (such as jeans and plain shirts) and then dressing each staple item up or down depending on the occasion using accessories. First impressions are created after looking at a person for a mere three seconds. In those three seconds, having the right outfit can make or break an impression. Work: To impress your colleagues but still look easygoing, an outfit described as business casual, such as jeans, a plain shirt, and a blazer would be appropriate....

As the silvery flakes snowed down, the blackbird swooped below the icy clouds, looking for a place to land. He eyed the frozen-over river and the white meadow next to it. In the center of the white topped grass stood a sturdy oak tree that looked to be as high as the clouds, or so the blackbird thought. Looking for a somewhere to rest after his journey, the blackbird was anxious to land atop a tree such as that. A gust of wind blew suddenly, passing through the leaves and making the tree ever so slightly waver. The blackbird didn't think much of it, and quickly came toward a sturdy looking branch. Another gust of wind blew past, and the blackbird tipped sideways as it landed. His wing bent too far sideways, causing it to break in a swift manner.    Just as soon as the break, the tree swayed under the wind. The innocent blackbird's 'sturdy' branch, or so he thought, was rotten, and could not take the sudden bursts of wind. The branch subsequently snapped off the tree,...
