The Three Pillars of Photography

Image
Aperture: F 2.8 F16 1. We should associate the eye with aperture because the cornea and pupil have similar ways of regulating light and they focus on things like aperture does.  2. The smaller the F-number, the larger the number. The larger the F-number, the smaller the number.  3. The depth of field is how large the area is that will appear sharp. If the aperture is smaller, then the number will be lower, which means more of the picture will be in focus (more depth of field). If the aperture is larger, then the number will be smaller, and less of the picture will be in focus (less depth of field).  Shutter speed: High shutter speed Low shutter speed 1. Good lighting a.) This picture would need a medium speed. This wouldn't have movement of people so it wouldn't need to capture anything moving.  b.) This picture would need a slightly faster shutter speed. There could be people handing out food and things, and we wouldn't ...

Portrait and self portrait intro

Image
2-3 best tips: 1) Experiment with Lighting 2) Experiment with subject expressions 3) Use a reflective surface for a cool effect Environmental Portraits:        I like this picture because of the lines leading up to the boxer in the corner and how the boxer looks very at home in his natural element.  I like this picture because of the cool lighting and how the subject looks like she's genuinely having fun. Self Portraits: I think this picture is really interesting because of the background and how we can see underwater a little bit too.   I like this picture because of the pretty colors in the forest and also the effect it gives viewers. It's very impactful. Casual Portraits: I like this picture because of the child's expression and how he focuses on the flower. I like this picture because of how simple it is and the line effect leading up to the subject. How the subject ...

Photo Manipulation and Ethics

Image
A. This article explains what is appropriate and inappropriate for photoshop. Many newspapers and magazines feel pressured to have certain images, so they photoshop them into what looks best to them. There is a line that's crossed a lot of the time though with photo manipulation into too much. Altering lighting and colors is alright, but not someone's body or setting around them. It doesn't take that much talent to learn photoshop, but it does take talent to be a good photographer, so that's another problem with it. B. The Washington Post, New York Times, and other magazines have similar philosophies in that some colors can be changed, but they all have very strict guidelines for what their photographers can photoshop. C. I think acceptable things are things like making a picture lighter, making someone a bit less red, or changing some colors to make it more cohesive. Just small things that help bring out the good qualities of a picture.  Unacceptable things would b...

C.E 4.1

Short answer: 1. In 2014, Steve Adler raised more than $1 million 2. It will create about 20,000 new jobs 3. Bitcoin and Ethereum 4. Butler Shores Metropolitan Park,  Roy Guerrero Metropolitan Park, and McKalla Place 5. Dinder is a dating app for people in Austin that combines interests in foods and  drinks with compatible matches. Long Response: 1. Child actors have always had it difficult because they're treated like adults when they're still kids. With more social media though, they are now constantly praised criticized, and scrutinized by thousands of people over the internet. It's harder for people to protect them from he internet. 2. Some of the problems of being a child actor are that they are expected to act like adults, they are put on display, and people are sexualizing them from a young age. 3. I've watched modern family, and heard a lot about Stranger Things. 4. I'm thinking about binging Stranger Things, but I don't binge anything else. ...

avoiding mergers

Image
This picture clearly has a merger with the bright yellow lines of the firemen. The furthest front fireman's lines merge in with the firemen in the background and they blend together. It is a very powerful picture though.

framing

Image
This picture is framing, and it is one of my favorites. The newspaper frames a rectangular piece in the mirror, showing a man in a white shirt staring hopelessly at the names and pictures.

Balance

Image
This picture has balance because the pieces of wood balance each other out into a shape. They are all leaning at a good distance from each other, and in different directions. The shape they make looks like an upside down triangle.

Lines

Image
This well known picture called falling man has the rule of lines. Although it has simplicity as well, there are clear leading lines downward which are completely in line with his falling body, and in the direction he is going. This is what makes it so interesting.

Rule of Thirds

Image
This picture is rule of thirds because the subject(s) are slightly to the right side, where they have room  to walk in the picture. This makes it rule of thirds because if there would be a grid drawn, the three people would be right at one of the intersections of the lines.

Simplicity

Image
This picture has the rule of simplicity because compared to other photos from 9/11 this doesn't have too much going on in the background. The clear only focus is the piece of paper that the man is handing up in the white sky, making the O+ written on it stand out.

C.E. 4.1

Short Answer: 1. La Veta, Colorado 2. This cartoon is making fun of what President Trump said about having a 'bigger button' than Kim Jong Un, and that made him sound idiotic.  3. Bobby Levinski, Ellen Troxclair, Rich DePalma, and Shane Sexton. 4. Seven Players were chosen. They're Sabrina Bianco, Avery McKenzie, Caitlin Godwin, Kandace Blackburn, Keara McGraw, Kyndall Johnson, and Emily Swift.  5. I'd like to own the Fitbit and the Gopro because I know how the regular products work, and those seem like really advanced pieces of technology. The Gopro is useful for skiing, and the fitbit would be useful for getting back into exercise.  Long Response: 1. The name of the book is called: " Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House" 2. Trump's lawyer says that the book includes false statements about Trump, therefore "give rise to claims for libel". For that reason, Trump doesn't want the book to go out. 3. I think in some cases, ye...

2017 reflection

Image
(I already did the personal questions in photojournalism) 1. My favorite song of 2017 had to be Believer by Imagine Dragons. The reason that I liked it so much was because I thought it was interesting because one of the main reasons it became so popular was how it played on the hit show, Riverdale. That was actually how I found out about the song too, and the band Imagine Dragons had a significant amount of publicity this year because of that song.  2. My favorite movie of 2017 was Wonder Woman. I thought that this movie was a great step for women. For so long, boys have been able to be empowered by watching superhero movies, and having idols. Girls this year finally got a chance to feel like they could be a superhero.  3. I thought Donald Trump's inauguration was the most important movie of the year. This came as a shock to everyone and was a major change to the country. No one expected that Trump would win, and he as president sparked so many peopl...
