Spring Break Extra Credit
Over my spring break, I traveled with my family to Florida to Rosemary beach, Seaside, and Seacrest. I went to so many cute stores and restaurants, and I felt like the town had a preppy feel to it. I actually went there two years ago, and I had just as much fun. It was nice because I didn’t spend any time stressing about school and the homework I needed to do. In a typical day, I’d wake up at nine due to the construction above us. That was the one thing that made my trip not as enjoyable, because they were so loud we couldn’t focus. We had to spend the majority of our time outside of our condo because of it. After I’d wake up from construction, I’d usually go to breakfast with my family to a delicious restaurant called Cowgirl Kitchen. They had nachos, migas, and much more yummy food. After breakfast, we’d go down to the beach. Surprisingly, it was very cold, so we’d bring blankets and books to read and sit out on the beach for a few hours. When we’d be done with that, we’d go back into our condo for time apart from each other and read, watch TV, eat, or just do whatever we wanted to do. During my spare time, I spent some of my time watching Grey’s Anatomy, my current favorite show. Sometimes we’d go to dinner, and one night we went to a fancy restaurant to celebrate my dad’s birthday. We ended up not loving it because our waitress was judgy and made us uncomfortable for some reason. Instead of having an expensive dessert there, we decided to go to the store and get regular ice cream. We went back to our condo and ate ice cream and played Trivial Pursuit for a long time, and that was by far my favorite night. Even though the construction was incredibly aggravating, we managed to find ways around it. The most eventful part of my spring break though was when we went to visit my family in Louisiana on the way to Florida. My great aunt got up to greet us and fell from her chair onto the floor. At first she seemed okay, and she just said she needed a minute to recover. After about twenty minutes of us eating and talking to her on the floor, we made the judgement call to call an ambulance. She is a very particular person, and since she lives alone, she has become accustomed to doing things her way. She was being unreasonable, yelling at people to get her jacket and pillows instead of helping in other ways. We went to the hospital with her, and she had surgery on her broken hip two days after she broke it because she was on blood thinners, which made her very angry. She basically ordered us to go back to her house and get specific things like her books, toothbrush, clothes, and do her dishes. This prolonged our travel time, and so we didn’t get to go on the road until late at night, and we didn’t get to Florida until a few days later because we had to stop and stay in a hotel. I feel really bad that she’s hurt, but she’s being incredibly rude to her friends and family, causing others to not want to help her. This has taken up a lot of our time back home on phone calls listening to our relatives get upset. I’m hoping she will recover quickly, but I’m not sure she will. We didn’t have time to visit her on the way back from Florida, so that probably made her mad. We were encouraged by our other relatives to spend some family time together though since Jake and I are both in high school and we have less and less time. Aside from that fiasco, I had so much fun at the beach and taking some time for myself. I’ve been so stressed from school lately, and planning for the summer, so it was nice to have a carefree break. My mom and I are even talking about going back to the same beach over the summer for a few nights. The water was so clear, and the white sand was a stark difference from the orange we’re accustomed to in Port Aransas. I would encourage everyone to go to that beach, because it’s such a peaceful experience and the views are gorgeous.
