Car raid

Avery Shelton has had her favorite silver Toyota Forerunner since 2015. Her car has traveled with her as she has grown and has served her well.

Shelton’s family bought her car in 2015, and it’s been used by her family almost every day.

“My family uses our car all the time,” Shelton said. “We use it for simple things such as going to the store, but also on big trips across the country.”

The car is tidy, but has dilapidated grey seats.

“Since we use our car so much, we often find that it gets a little run-down,” Shelton said. “We always try to keep it as clean as possible though.”

Shelton has three sisters who can make life in the car quite difficult.

“The biggest downside about the car is that my sisters always take up so much room,” Shelton said. “They’re so loud and make a ton of messes in the car.”

A cinnamon-scented car diffuser dangles from the mirror, filling the car with a delicious smell.

“We love our diffuser so much,” Shelton said. “I think it adds a lot of character to the car and gives it a comfortable feel.”

Shelton’s mom is a dance instructor, and her dad is a contractor.

“My mom and my dad use the car equally, but they have to use it for very different things,” Shelton said. “My parents sometimes fight about who gets the car.”

The Sheltons recently drove their car on a road trip to Virginia during spring break.

“That trip sparked a lot of fun memories in my car,” Shelton said. “I remember getting ice cream and the cone dripping on one of the seats. I still have a small stain and I didn’t tell my mom.”

Avery’s older sister Noa is sixteen, and will get her new car soon.

“I can’t believe Noa’s getting a new car!” Avery said. “I’ll bet that we’ll end up sharing it when I turn sixteen.”

Shelton’s mom isn’t the one to drive on all the family trips, and leaves it up to her husband instead.

“One very interesting thing about my car is that my mom has to drive it a lot, but hates driving it out of the Circle C area,” Shelton said. “She doesn’t feel comfortable doing it, and none of us push her to do anything she doesn’t want to do.”

Shelton’s car is filled with many trinkets that symbolize the fun memories she had in her car.

“We have plenty of toys from when we were younger in the backseat,” Shelton said. “It’s probably the messiest part of the car, and we really need to clean it out soon and go through all that junk.”
