News Ethics 1) Using the 'Holocaust' Metaphor The PETA, or People for Ethical Treatments of Animals, released a campaign called "Holocaust on your Plate." The campaign's purpose was to compare the slaughter of animals for human's food to the 6 million Jews who were slaughtered in the Nazi concentration camps. This campaign was released in San Diego, and then in Berlin shortly after. Once the campaign was released in Berlin, the Central Council of Jews in Germany decided to sue the PETA for their campaign, and 5 years later, the German Supreme Court decided to ban the images from German civilians. Ingrid Newkirk, who is the CEO of the PETA and allowed the campaign to be released, is receiving major backlash from the offended Jews. However, the fact that a Jewish member in the company came up with the idea has not helped ease the backlash from the Jews. Avery Shelton has had her favorite silver Toyota Forerunner since 2015. Her car has traveled with her as she has grown and has served her well. Shelton’s family bought her car in 2015, and it’s been used by her family almost every day. “My family uses our car all the time,” Shelton said. “We use it for simple things such as going to the store, but also on big trips across the country.” The car is tidy, but has dilapidated grey seats. “Since we use our car so much, we often find that it gets a little run-down,” Shelton said. “We always try to keep it as clean as possible though.” Shelton has three sisters who can make life in the car quite difficult. “The biggest downside about the car is that my sisters always take up so much room,” Shelton said. “They’re so loud and make a ton of messes in the car.” A cinnamon-scented car diffuser dangles from the mirror, filling the car with a delicious smell. “We love our diffuser so much,” Shelton said. “I think it ...
