Student of the Month Interview with Shruti

Me: Hello! I'm Abbie with the Lone Star Dispatch. I was wondering if I could ask you some questions concerning student of the month?

Shruti: Yes of course, I'm always open to questions.

1.  Great! So, how do you feel about being student of the month?

Shruti: I feel very proud and thankful to receive this award, I worked hard for it. Although it took quite a bit of effort, it all payed off.

2. Who actually decides who becomes student of the month?

Shruti: It's a mix of all teachers who work at Bowie who decide. They all come together to vote on someone with the best grades, and someone who is respectful.

3. So, do you participate in any extracurriculars? If so, which ones?

Shruti: I do actually, I participate in cross country. I recently won an award for that too.

4. That's very impressive. How do you manage your time daily?

Shruti: It's very hard to balance schoolwork and cross country together, but I like to make a compilation of to-do lists that help me organize and manage my time.

5. Do you have any advice for people aspiring to be student of the month?

Shruti: Don't give up for what you want, and always stay humble to all of your teachers and peers.

6. What parts of school are you involved in?

Shruti: I'm involved in yearbook and the mathletes. I have a very busy schedule, so it's hard to balance keeping up my grades.

7. Has being student of the month changed the way people have treated you? If so, why do you think that is?

Shruti: I've gained so much more respect from my friends and from my teachers. It's so nice to have people know my name and know what I'm capable of. I think they treat me differently because I've accomplished such a prestigious award.

8. What is your class load this year? How much homework do you have on average each night with these classes?

Shruti: I take all AP classes, and I'm two years ahead academically. On average, I have about an hour of homework per class every night, including electives.

9. Has anyone aided you into becoming student of the month?

Shruti: My family has aided me the most in this process. They've understood that over these past 30 days school has had to come first.

10. Do you hope to be student of the month again?

Shruti: Yes I do, I hope to be student of the month every month! It's a little unrealistic but why not?

11. Did you have a goal to be student of the month?

Shruti: I've had this goal since the first day of Freshman year. It's been a huge honor.

12. Was becoming student of the month something surprising or did you expect it ahead of time?

Shruti: I had this gut feeling that I'd be student of the month for a while, so it wasn't a huge surprise for me.

16. What kinds of things does being student of the month entail?

Shruti: Being student of the month comes with responsibility, I can't sass anyone and I have to keep up my grades quite high.

17. How do you handle group work or projects?

Shruti: Group projects can be tricky, but the most important thing is to pull your weight and not let your group down.

18. How have your organization skills come into play with this award?

Shruti: My organization skills have been so beneficial, I don't know how I could get by without them. I always keep colored sticky notes and pens on hand.

19. What kind of people do you think should receive an award like this?

Shruti: Anyone who works hard and makes great grades deserves this award. It's all about strategies as well.

20. On average, what do you try to maintain for grades?

Shruti: I always stay at about a 95 or above in every class, which is at least a 4.5 gpa. Without that, I can't keep up my title. To other students though, I recommend at least a 90 or above.

Me: Thanks for talking with me! We appreciate your responses.
