News Ethics 1) Using the 'Holocaust' Metaphor The PETA, or People for Ethical Treatments of Animals, released a campaign called "Holocaust on your Plate." The campaign's purpose was to compare the slaughter of animals for human's food to the 6 million Jews who were slaughtered in the Nazi concentration camps. This campaign was released in San Diego, and then in Berlin shortly after. Once the campaign was released in Berlin, the Central Council of Jews in Germany decided to sue the PETA for their campaign, and 5 years later, the German Supreme Court decided to ban the images from German civilians. Ingrid Newkirk, who is the CEO of the PETA and allowed the campaign to be released, is receiving major backlash from the offended Jews. However, the fact that a Jewish member in the company came up with the idea has not helped ease the backlash from the Jews.
