Parent Interview

Hi! I'm Abbie with the Lone Star Dispatch. Could I ask you some questions about your daughter being student of the month?

Mother: Yes of course! Sorry my husband couldn't be with us, but we agree on all of Shruti's success.

Me: It's alright. So, are you proud of Shruti being student of the month?

Mother: We are enormously proud. She worked so hard, and everyone could see it. All of the late nights and weekends spent studying rather than with friends finally payed off! I'd like to think we helped her in the process of it all.

Me: Shruti's said in a previous interview that you helped her with the process quite a bit. If you don't mind me asking, did this award come with any impact on your family? From what I've gathered, there hasn't been much time for family bonding.

Mother: No there hasn't. That's been our major struggle with this process because we haven't had much time to spend with each other. Shruti works so hard to achieve awards like this, and I admire that. Though I am proud of her, it's hard to not be with her as much as we've wanted. It's also difficult to see that she doesn't have as much time as everyone else to spend time with friends outside of school and cross country.

Me: That must be difficult. What are your hopes for the future for her? How do you see her progressing academically and as a person?

Mother: Over these past few years at Bowie, she has grown so much. I continue to watch her grow every single day, and in a few years, I can see her progressing into even more. She has high hopes for college and a career as the President of the United States, and it'll be difficult, but I have faith that she'll get there. She's always been the kind of person with a strong will, and I'm not going to stand in the way of her dreams.

Me: That is a huge goal! Lastly, does Shruti have any siblings? If so, do they hope to follow in her footsteps and achieve this award?

Mother: Yes she does! She has a little brother, and he's already talking about being student of the month at his elementary school. He's so proud of what she's accomplished.

Me: I imagine he is. Well, thank you for your responses!

Mother: You are welcome! Let me know if you have any more questions.

Teacher Interview

Me: Hi! I'm Abbie with the Lone Star Dispatch. I was wondering if I could ask you some questions about your student becoming student of the month?

Teacher: Yes of course! Shruti is so happy to get this award.

Me: I've seen that she is. From what I've gathered, you've been her biggest advocate in this process. Is that true?

Teacher: I have been. Since her first day in my class, I've seen Shruti work so hard from the beginning. She never gives up on what she wants to accomplish. Even in group projects, I've seen Shruti working with other group members and bringing out their creative side in a way I've never seen before. She not only makes perfect grades, but she works hard to achieve them.

Me: That's extremely impressive. How has Shruti been a role model/leader in your class?

Teacher: Shruti brings out a great side in people, and her bubbly personality changes the classroom atmosphere. One of the most memorable things she's done is that she's done her presentations first to make people not as nervous. She is never intimidating, and wants to work with everyone in the class. In a way, she's almost like an assistant teacher!

Me: That must be helpful! How do you think you've helped Shruti achieve her ambitious goal?

Teacher: Like you said previously, I've been her biggest advocate in this process. I never shy away from giving her praise as well as constructive criticism, and I push her to be the best she can be. I've watched her grow from my class into a more knowledgable student who also achieves her goals. I can always tell her from others because she volunteers for everything, and has such a zest for learning.

Me: I think she definitely does. Well thank you for your time!

Teacher: My pleasure!

Friend:

Me: Hello! I'm Abbie with the Lone Star Dispatch, and I was wondering if I could interview you about Shruti's success?

Friend: Yes of course!

Me: How proud of Shruti were you when you heard the news of her being student of the month?

Friend: I was extremely proud, and not all that surprised. The amount of late nights and hard work I've seen from her is so admirable.

Me: Have you seen anyone jealous of her or has it affected any of her other friendships that you know of?

Friend: I have unfortunately seen jealousy, and it makes me extremely sad that people wouldn't support her as much as I have. She always does her best, and if people can't handle that, then the aren't true friends.

Me: How has Shruti's strive for achieving good grades effected you?

Friend: Shruti has been the ultimate study partner. She always knows how to keep me on track and finds a way to make it fun.

Me: Well, thanks for your time!

Friend: No problem!
